Protein snacks have a problem...

As a long-time lifter from Queensland, trying to hit my protein goals on a road trip was damn near impossible.

Because what did I have?

Protein bars? With 500 ingredients? No thanks.

How about beef jerky? Surely it's just beef, right?

Wrong.

Stop off at any servo and you'll see it. You know what I'm talking about.

Legally, I can't say who...but let's just call them Big Beef Jerky.

Slimy red chunks of soy, sugar, seed oils.

Cutting corners, and making a cheap product that's not even that high in protein.

Awesome.

Is this really all we've got? Is this the best way to get in protein on the go?

I didn't think so.

So I started experimenting...

After playing around at home, I had a method and recipe that I really thought could be something.

So with a little bit of savings, no experience, and no skills, I approached a local factory and asked if we could make it happen.

And we could.

Gymrat Jerky was born.

So what now?

The story's just getting good...

So there it was. Beef jerky made just for lifters.

I started selling it on the side, but I didn't really know what I was doing.

Anyone who tried it loved it - but it was pretty hard to get a lot of people to try it while working a full time job.

So I did something crazy.

That full time job? Threw it all away.

I had enough saved up to buy myself one year to make this business work.

I moved cities, slept on an air mattress, and survived off of jerky, hopes, and dreams.

But - I still had no idea what I was doing.

So I decided to post about what I was doing on social media, and I decided to post every single day for a year.

It was brutal.

But eventually, it worked. And I went viral.

Really viral.

At just short of a year, I was at 100,000 followers.

Influencer status achieved. Was it worth it?

Well, yeah.

Because now, people knew about Gymrat Jerky. And they ordered it. And they LOVED it.

After one year of going all in, Gymrat Jerky has been shipped all over Australia, gotten tons of 5-star reviews, and undoubtedly fuelled thousands of PRs.

And that's where the story's at (for now).

Still a one-man show, and I still pack and ship off every order myself.
